HCL Connections Ideas Portal

Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

For more information and upcoming events, please visit our HCL Connections page.

Expand the capability for the Copy an Existing Community and Copy Community feature

Currently the Copy an Existing Community and Copy Community are limited in the scope of the community data/content that is actually copied to the new community. Per https://www.ibm.com/support/knowledgecenter/en/SSL3JX/communities/c_com_copy.html Copying a community structure maintains consistency by creating a community with the same layout and structure as the existing community. The following items are copied into the new community:
  1. Title and description
  2. Access settings
  3. Apps
  4. Note

Except for the Rich Text app, app contents are not copied to the new community.
What isn't copied?
Community members, files, app content (wikis or blogs content, for example), and images are not copied to the new community.

Therefore, this enhancement request is to expand the capability of these features to include a larger scope if not a complete copy of the contents within the community in its entirety.

With the toolkit you can back up and restore a community giving it new name to sort of create a copy... but this is not a viable solution and is not a "copy"  any client using CCM could not use this to"copy" a community as the library pointer of the new community would point to the original communities library data in filenet.

As far as I am aware the Connections Toolkit is not available for the cloud (or is it by now?).

A solution to do this is available in the Connections Toolkit.  This is not a capability that we are looking to bring to the product given the possibility of duplicating private content, among other concerns.
