HCL Connections Ideas Portal

Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

For more information and upcoming events, please visit our HCL Connections page.

Increase the error handling for the Move Community function

We found a problem with the Move Community function. To recreate the problem, perform the following steps:

1) Create a subcommunity of any existing community, and give the subcommunity a handle (Web address) name of say 'testmovecommunity'.

2) Create a new top-level community and give it the same handle name of 'testmovecommunity'.

3) Now open the subcommunity created in step 1) and attempt to use the Move Community function to turn it into a top-level community.

You will get the error "Community move failed"! This error message does not give any meaningful info to the user that the reason the move failed is because the subcommunity's handle already matches the handle of some top-level community. We feel that the error should be more indicative of the problem, so that the community owner can change the handle name if he/she wants the move to succeed.
