HCL Connections Ideas Portal

Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

For more information and upcoming events, please visit our HCL Connections page.

Preview files on mobile

Currently the mobile app downloads full file in order to render its preview. This is time consuming and megabytes of data are transfered unnecessarily. The generated preview is even not cached so you have to download the full file over and over if you skip among multiple files during a day or session.

Why the app can not use a file preview like it is in browser? And offer file download only when user does need it? The file preview mechanism is already present on server.... In addition such two step approach would be more consistent with browser scenario and it is exactly what users do expect (“it works the same”).

if the Docs viewer is installed on the server, the preview now works on Android; for iOS the file will still be downloaded but we have it in our backlog as a future work item

It gets even worse if we are talking about videos. On mobile devices streaming of Videos is a must!
