Welcome to the IBM Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the IBM Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

For more information and upcoming events, please visit our IBM Connections page.

Automatically upgrade desktop plugin

We would like to suggest an auto-update feature for the IBM Connections File Sync and Share Desktop Plug-In. A number of improvements have been made to this plug-in recently, however our users often run old versions and struggle with issues which are long resolved, simply because they did not update the add-in manually. It would be nice if there was an auto-update feature similar to the one in the IBM Sametime Connect client so that users always get the latest version to their systems.

I consider this an important request for high UX with low TCO!

Agree, it is common that people use 2-3 yers old desktop plugin. Automatic updates would help a lot.

Alternatively the sever might have a minimum version of the client configured and warn the user whenever he or she uses an old version (via a pop up window or some icon decoration of the desktop connector)

For admins, it would be also nice to see somewhere which version of the plugin every user uses.

We are updating the desktop Plugin with our own Software Management Tool. Of course i have to download the current version manually to deploy it to the clients but it works!

While auto upgrade might be useful in small unmanaged deployments, customers who have implemented a managed desktop infrastructure with central software deployment would like to keep control about the installed version. It happened in the past, that a new update has broken a feature and a roll-back to the previous version was required (or a complete stop of deployment). The idea of enforcing a minimum version would be worth a separate idea/enhancement request.

I would add there are still issues even with the current plug-ins - especially the endless install, it thinks its not installed, install again of the Meetings plugin.
