HCL Connections Ideas Portal

Welcome to the HCL Connections Product Ideas Lab! The place where you can submit product ideas and enhancement request. We encourage you to participate by voting on, commenting on, and creating new ideas. All new ideas will be evaluated by the HCL Product Management & Engineering teams, and the next steps will be communicated. While not all submitted ideas will be executed upon, community feedback will play a key role in influencing which ideas are and when they will be implemented.

Support for viewing and editing of files with encryption methods other than RC4

Steps to reproduce issue:

  1. Using MS Office Word 2013 create a document and then use the option "File" --> "Protect Document" --> "Encrypt with Password"
  2. After the file is encrypted with password upload to IBM Connections Cloud "My Files"
  3. After file is uploaded to "My Files" try to view or edit it by clicking on the file name or use the "edit in Docs" option within the "more" options and the following errors occurs:
"The encrypted document is not supported.
The file is password-protected. To view the file in the viewer, first make sure that the file is decrypted."
"The encrypted document is not supported.
This file is password-protected. To open the file in Docs, first make sure that the file is decrypted."

The following document states that only RC4 encryption method is supported with password protected files

This issue also affects other types of MS Office files including Excel and PowerPoint.

A workaround is to download the file from "My Files", make the needed changes to the file, and then use the "upload new version" option.

Business impact "Having our users download encrypted files in order to open them defeats one of our intentions for using Connections, namely, to be able to open documents in the Connections site rather than downloading so the file can be open in an app outside Connections."
